The director and co-creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, has pleasantly surprised fans by sharing the first image from the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 2 movie.

Boon couldn't resist sharing a hilarious story on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account. According to him, he managed to pull off a prank by stealing an image of Mortal Kombat 2 from producer Todd Garner's phone. The image in question showcases a delightful sneak peek of Kitana, a beloved character from the Mortal Kombat video game series. Fans will be thrilled to see her making her debut in the rebooted film franchise with MK2. Boon playfully mentioned that he could also leak things, alluding to the frequent instances of information related to the Mortal Kombat games being leaked over the years.

Well, it seems like there's still a whole bunch of mystery surrounding Mortal Kombat 2. The upcoming film will bring back a hilarious cast of characters from 2021's Mortal Kombat. Fans can look forward to the return of Sonya Blade, Kano, Kung Lao, and Liu Kang, who are all set to make a comeback. In the sequel, Mortal Kombat 2 will bring in some new characters like Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Johnny Cage (Karl Urban), Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), and Quan Chi (Damon Herriman). Speaking of Kitana, Adeline Rudolph has been cast to portray her and is expected to have a significant role in the movie's storyline.

On top of that, Lewis Tan, who portrays Cole Young in the film franchise, and amusingly, Shatterstar in Deadpool & Wolverine, recently shared with a well-known publication that the upcoming sequel will finally feature the iconic "Mortal Kombat" tournament that was absent in the first instalment.
